George (Gene) Price - WWII

original shellback certificate, earned for crossing
the equator aboard the SS Afoundria on his way to the
Pacific.

I found it interesting and a little scary to note on
another web site that the Afoundria was torpedoed in
the Caribbean less than a month after the date on this
certificate.

This is Dad with two of his
shipmates.  Dad is in the center, holding the weapon.

This is Dad, carrying his
omnipresent .45 Thompson.  We think it was taken on
Okinawa.

Years later, a friend of my father found a dewatted
Thompson and had it mounted on a cherrywood plaque and
presented it to him.
