John Daly
I was born March 1, 1935 in Torrington, WY and we moved to Rock Springs when I was 2 and stayed there until my graduation in 1953. I worked at Food Machinery for 4 months before joining the Navy on October 13, 1953. I was in Boot camp in San Diego and entered steelworkers school in Port Hueneme. I was assigned to North Island San Diego where I stayed about 1 month.  I was then sent to San Clemente Island where we resurfaced the landing strip, built an observation bunker for the marines to observe and direct the suing the island for target practice.
I flew into Seattle on October 4, 1957 for my discharge and four years of inactive reserves. All in all, my time in the service was very enjoyable. I consider myself very fortunate to have served in peace time between the Korean and Vietnam wars. I went back to Wyoming for a year and worked for my Uncle in a plumbing and sheet metal shop. One winter in Wyoming was the deciding factor in my move to warm California. I worked in Stockton for 2 years as a longshoreman, then married and moved to San Jose where I was employed for 40 years as a gas serviceman for Pacific Gas and Electric. Officially retiring in 2000. The most important event in my four years of service was in January 1954, I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
In 1990, one month after the big earthquake and many long hours trying to restore gas service to the Santa Cruz Mountain area, I had bilateral knee surgery and 2 days later a massive heart attack, which led to triple by-pass and subsequently 3 heart attacks since.
