1967

I joined MCB11 in July 1966. I deployed with the advance party to Dong Ha in March of 1967 as a CET2. I was standing watch at the ammo dump in April when we received the first of many rocket attacks. The first round landed about 100 meters from our bunker in the middle of a road. I have the flash and the crack of that rocket indelibly imprinted on my brain. Larry Splitt, John Carey and Jerry Harris were with me. In June I became a squad leader in B Company and continued in that position until we were replaced by MC5 in December. I got out in April of 1968 and went back to work at the phone company where I worked for a total of 40 years and retired in December 2000. I am married and have 3 grown sons and 4 grandchildren. I am an avid runner and own a set of golf clubs.
