I joined MCB 11
just before here last deployment to Camp Haines in April 1968, we left RVN the
end of May. I was assigned to the MARS
station at Port Hueneme to be trained to run the MARS station in RVN. What I
remember the most is that I missed my son's first birthday on July 10, 1968. Due
to President Nixon's pullout, I was home for my daughter's birth that following
December. While at
Camp Haines I was one of about 3 or 4 that ran the MARS station full time (24
hours a day). I'm sure I helped a bunch of Camp Haines CBs to call home during
that tour ... ( "I love you...OVER").
It is good to hear that the group has nearly doubled. Those
of you in the leadership have done a great job of attracting us to a common
cause and interest.
