O. Jay William, LCDR
I served MCB11 as the Battalion X.O. during the Quang Tri and Camp Haines deployments. Since leaving the Battalion in December, 1969, when it was decommissioned, I served in various duty stations with the last being that of Deputy Director of the Naval Petroleum Reserves near Bakersfield, CA. I retired there in December 1978, at the same time that the Activity was moved from the Department of Defense to the Department of Energy, and placed under civilian authority rather than the military. I was then hired in the same position that I had retired from and served another 20 years before retiring once again in 199 as the Directory of the Naval Petroleum Reserves in California.
Since retiring I have remained in Bakersfield, (my kids all think they are natives and are scattered all over California, which makes it difficult to go back to my home state of Texas). I am busy trying to do all those things that I didn't have time to do when I was working. The saying that "I don't know how I had time to work" is really true. Retirement is great.
