Daniel James Nystrom
December 10, 1932 - June 21, 2005

Daniel was born December 10, 1932, to Harry and Effie Nystrom. Daniel was a retired Navy senior chief petty officer. He began his active duty service on January 21, 1953. Daniel was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for service in Vietnam in 1967-1968 (MCB 10). He completed 20 years at Port Hueneme and transferred to Fleet Reserve. In November of 1982 he completed 30 years of active and inactive service combined.

He received the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation and Navy Commendation Medal. His tours of duty included Vietnam, Japan, Okinawa and Port Hueneme. In 1970, he was active in the Ventura County Chess Club as a player, winning numerous trophies and prizes. He was also director, organizer and officer in this club. Other activities included stamp dealing, a mail order business and a private constrction business.

Daniel is survived by his sister and brother in Connecticut, a sister in Arkansas, four nephews and one niece. Arangements are entrusted to James A. Readon-Payton Mortuary.
