In November 0f 1959 MCB Eleven Detachment "Bravo" left to perform a job on Midway Island which had become associated with the Battalion - taking care of the "Gooney Birds."  The job consisted of the clearing and stabilization of areas adjacent to the runways at the Air Station. By doing this it was hoped that the birds would use the warm updrafts over the new stabilized areas for soaring instead of the runway updrafts. Upon completion of the project a letter of appreciation was received by this command congratulating all hands for a job "well done!"

President Eisenhower's program, developed to promote peace. The men of MCV Eleven, though weary from a six day work week, still donated their time and skills to make our
friendship with the Okinawans stronger.
On July 20, 1960 the voyage home started. It was a long two weeks with a stopoff at Yokohama. The men were met by their families and friends.
