During November and December 1959, a typhoon hit the area. We learned early that plywood and lightweight steel were like matchsticks when a gust of wind hit 90 - 100 miles per hour.

Change of Command
On February 16, 1960 CDR H. F. Liberty, CEC USNR, relinquished command of MCB Eleven to then LCDR John P. Williams, CEC, USN. CDR Liberty made the rounds after formal ceremonies to say goodbye to the officers and men he had grown so proud of, particularly on this deployment.
